Golf's Ranum Finishes as Co-Champ at Skyline Championship

St. Joseph's Takes Second Place

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Farmingdale State College placed four golfers in the top five in claiming its second straight Skyline Conference golf championship on Sunday at Eisenhower Park's Red Course.  The Rams had a two-day total of 605, finishing 33 shots ahead of second-place St. Joseph's.

With the championship, Farmingdale State earned the Skyline Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which will be held on May 11-14, 2010 at the Hershey Country Club, in Hershey, Pa.

Individually, Farmingdale State senior Masanao Maruyama (Yamanashi, Japan) and St. Joseph's junior Matt Ranum (Bridgehampton, N.Y.) tied for medalist honors with two-round totals of 150.  Maruyama fired a second-round total of one-over 73 to erase a five-shot deficit after the first round.  Ranum, who was two-shots back entering Sunday's second round, shot 76 on Sunday.  He sank a 12-foot putt in near darkness on the 18th hole to save par and earn a share of the individual championship.

Farmingdale State senior Matt Livolsi (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) finished in third place, just one shot back with a two-round total of 151.  The top five golfers, including ties, earned first team All-Skyline Conference honors.  Farmingdale State senior Jim McLaughlin (Oceanside, N.Y.) shot 79-73--152 to take fourth.  St. Joseph's senior Chris Manzello (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Farmingdale State sophomore Chris Arnold (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tied for fifth with scores of 155.

Second team All-Skyline Conference honors went to Farmingdale State senior Andrew Schwartz (Commack, N.Y.), St. Joseph's senior Matt Dennis (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Purchase senior Ben Potter (Oakham, England) and Purchase junior Matt Steinbach (Bainbridge, N.Y.).

Purchase, in its first season of varsity competition, took third.  SUNY College at Old Westbury placed fourth and Yeshiva University took fifth.
